Norwich Castle Guidebook Printing

A New Chapter Begins at Norwich Castle

After a major multi-million-pound restoration, Norwich Castle Museum reopened to the public in August 2025 as part of the “Royal Palace Reborn” project”. The transformation restored original Norman floor levels and recreated historic spaces such as the Great Hall and royal apartments, allowing visitors to experience the keep as it would have appeared in the 12th century.

The redevelopment was one of the largest heritage projects of its kind in the UK. The works introduced new visitor facilities, improved accessibility across all floors, and created a medieval gallery in partnership with the British Museum.

To support this landmark reopening, Page Bros were asked to print the official visitor guidebook which was designed by Jigsaw Design & Publishing. This guidebook aims to enhance the visitor experience while telling the story of the newly reopened castle.

In the details

A key decision early in the project was to create a simple, bold cover design that reflected the castle’s striking new visual identity.

The finished guidebook features a gold foil logo on the cover. This premium finishing choice echoes the strength of the new branding while giving a tactile, high-quality feel to the publication. Beyond the cover, the logo shape becomes a versatile visual device used throughout the guide. It appears in a vibrant palette of colours and is layered over photography to highlight key images, mark sections, and add dynamic pops of colour. The result is a keepsake-quality book that reflects the significance of the reopening.

The brand identity itself was developed by The Click, who created a deliberately minimal logo inspired by the castle’s distinctive cube-like Norman keep. The logo was designed to be simple, iconic, and flexible across applications (including looking great in printed form!).

A guidebook to enrich the visitor experience
The publication was created as a practical companion to the visitor journey, combining historical interpretation with clear, engaging storytelling. Designed to be both informative and collectable, the guidebook helps visitors understand the castle’s 900-year history, from royal residence to prison, museum, and now fully restored heritage attraction.
